a changing aesthetic

Over the past year, my style has changed quite a lot. Throughout the teenage years, your style is constantly evolving and changing and it's hard to pin point a certain 'style' that you adhere to. However, I feel that in the year I have turned 16 I've finally found my niche or 'style' in the fashion world. In particular last year. 2016 was a blog evolution for me and I've definitely blogged about more fashion. From clearing out your wardrobe to shopping in a charity shop, the range of posts has reflected the range my blog has to offer. Although, my wardrobe tells a different story. I'm at school five days a week so I really don't need a big wardrobe but my clothes don't really have difference between each piece. You fall back onto a few styles and pieces and that is what works for you - everyone has a different body type so it's about finding what fits you and makes you feel confident.

Over the past year my style has really become mine and I am falling in love with fashion and my wardrobe once again.
More basics, less pattern and my obsessive buying of striped tops has seemingly plateaued out (I still wear them just as much though). My wardrobe seems to be dominated my a range of different coloured Brandy Melville tops that I just interchange with jeans, trousers or culottes.
There is almost next to none patterned garments in my wardrobe any more. I do have a few floral tops and dresses but there's no need to buy any more. Patterned pieces or slogan tees become obsolete so quickly and as a student who's buying ethically (that will definitely be the biggest change throughout this year) I don't want to spend my money on clothes that I'll give away within a year.

My has graduated from tops that have the slogans 'geek' or 'yolo' to bold colours mixed with basics and the occasional trend piece (see the puffer jacket above that I can assure you I will wear for a lot longer than this trend is considered 'cool', it is just so cosy). That change hasn't exactly been in the last year but it has become more succinct in the last year. I know what suits me and I'm going to stick to that, there a few out there pieces in my wardrobe but I've grown to love them, sometimes it's good to branch out because in the back of your mind you know you're going to love it; that's when they become the favourite piece in your wardrobe.

But what's new to my wardrobe? The abundance of old skool vans photos in this post may be totally unorginal but I love them none the less and I have been wearing them whenever, wherever and with whatever. Other than them rubbing on my right foot they have been so comfy and I would recommend you to buy them if you haven't (Dalal has written a more indepth post about them if you wanted a little more info). I hardly ever buy shoes so these were a bit of a treat and no doubt they'll feature in many more posts.

I haven't bought many clothes lately but I love reading/watching hauls and seeing as this is a post about changing style I felt compelled to write about these shoes. I'm not going to buy tons of new clothes in the next year (the first half will be spent revising lets be real) so my style isn't going to change that much. Here's to ma new aesthetic.

This post is a collab with the lovely Izzy Manuel; her blog photography is absolutely stunning and she is one cool gal. She's also written about how her style has changed in the past year (that includes the photo above with this gawg shoe).

Has your style changed in the last year? Let me know in the comments, I would love to know some more about your style - what are you favourite pieces in your wardrobe?

Love, Eleanor xx

  6. What a great post! It made me think of the different phases I had through the years (e.g. wearing nothing but pink haha). I don't think my style has changed much withing the last year but I can't really say this is how I want to dress till the rest of my life... it's just the style that's most convenient at the moment I guess :D xx

    1. Thank you! I never really thought of that, I guess life events etc. make us change our style, even if it isn't what we really want to wear xx

  9. Thanks for the little mention! I wrote a post all about influence over (my) style + how my style has evolved within the past year so I can relate with a lot of things you've mentioned- as you get older your style changes with maturity. I can definitely vouch for that, when I look at some of the old outfits I used to wear I just can't help but cringe...denim skater skates? whaaatt??? thank god for growth in personal style.
Ahh aren't vans the best, they're climbing up to being my most worn shoes at the moment. Loved the post as per usual.

  10. I absolutely love your style! I figured out a couple years ago that my style is sort of festival chic, kind of a combination between boho and edgy, so I mostly own stuff from Urban Outfitters and Free People!

  13. Love this post and your style! Personally, I used to only wear black-grey-white things and I still do but recently I've started to buy colored sweaters and shirts (nothing crazy tho: burgundy, mustard and dark blue) and I'm so in love!! I also needed a new coat and I got one that goes just below the knee and OMG I never thought I'd be able to wear something like that but I do and it feels great.
Again, I LOVE your style and those vans shoes are perfect! I've wanted them for ages but have never bought them, maybe this year will be the year!
Sorry this was such a long comment haha
