dear diary: can summer last forever?

The disposable camera photos were developed from Barcelona and they're so cute! These two were my favourite :)
As I upload this on the last day of my summer holidays I realise that this summer has been one of the best yet. For once I haven't let my blog get me down or in the way of what I wanted to do and I've realised that lazy days are OKAY and that reading eight books over the course of six weeks is a great way to spend sunny summer days.

When I posted my summer bucket list at the start of June I asked if you wanted me to look back on it at the end of summer and a lot of you said yes so I thought I would do a summer round up post. I also think I'm going to title these more chatty posts 'dear diary' as I think it's quite fitting for the type of post!

Visit Barcelona was first up on my bucket list and it was amazing, I'm sure you're all fed up with me talking about it but I wrote a post all about the city if you want to read more about it. I did want to play tennis at my local sports center but that never materialised, I did however play ping pong one day (and I never thought I would say that). Have a picnic in the sun was easily achieved and on a few occasions I did have picnics with a few of my friends, it's such a simple thing but the picnics were some of the best parts of summer (all down to the food of course). Visit a city I've never been before - does Barcelona count? Go to at least one museum/art gallery was something I really wanted to do and I did when I was on holiday but have yet to go to a museum in England.
Read at least two books (but hopefully more) well I actually read eight books; I hardly ever read at school so summer was a chance to catch up on all the books I had on my wishlist (even if I still have about twenty more). Whilst I didn't take a trip to Brighton I did go on some lovely days out. My point to make my room less of a mess (aka trip to Urban Outfitters for some room decor) is questionable because whilst I have tried to make my room less of a mess I'm not sure how long it will last. I wanted to walk past the gym and go in - guess who's become a gym gal?! I joke but I did go swimming and went to a dance class one week so I have been doing more sport than usual this summer, I commend myself at this act.

Fill up more pages in my scrapbook didn't really happen, the art journal idea was at the bottom of my 'to-do list' but I did fill one or two pages, none for a blog post yet though. Go to the beach in England at least once was always going to be weather dependent but the weather in the UK was really nice this summer so I managed a few trips to the beach. I did try to cook and it didn't taste completely awful, there are a few recipes from Madeleine Shaw's 'get the glow' book that I loved making and I think I might need to get my hands on 'Ready, steady, glow' because the recipes look equally as gorgeous. I planned to learn a couple of things in Spanish before I go to Spain but this never came to anything; one day on Dualingo was the most I did and 'yo bebes agua' was the outcome; I do love learning new things but French is where my passion for language lies.
Stop worrying about not doing something productive - I needed to learn that getting up at 10 am on a holiday is a good thing and I definitely did! This was mainly due to discovering Jane the Virgin then Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I'm not sure how I haven't heard of Gilmore Girls before, my love for this show the same as my love for Gossip Girl; if not more (yup bold statement) and I have another four seasons to get through. I did try and get a tan and I was pretty successful in this quest considering how pale I was before I went on holiday; staying safe in the sun is way more important than getting brown.

I'm not really sure why buying some cute summer clothes was on my summer bucket list because I was inevitably going to do this but I'm trying to save after spending too much money in Barcelona so I didn't buy any more than I did there. I did however pick up the cutest dress from a charity shop in my town and I just hope the summer weather lasts long enough to allow me to wear it. I wanted to try some smoothies and healthy food (lol why was this on my bucket list) but I did actually try a few new things. In Spain I had the nicest buckwheat salad which has been recreated at home and I love it.
Take a spontaneous road trip with my best friend/s - my exploring post is proof of a spontaneous trip (road trip or not it was a pretty great day). I didn't take pics with an underwater camera but I looked like a mess all holiday so I'm not too bothered that I didn't fulfill this. For DofE I got to sleep in a tent for the first time and I think I liked it more than I should. I really want to go camping again next year as it was so fun and I think it would be better without walking ten km beforehand.
Have brunch somewhere cute? Yeah that didn't happen otherwise I would definitely have evidence of that candid avocado on toast. I didn't go to an outdoor concert or festival but I'm going to two concerts later this year which I am looking forward to a lot. I wanted to take some outdoor outfit photos and I did! My 'Walking through wonderland' post is proof if you want to read.
Whilst I wanted to spend a whole day without technology I didn't really fulfill this nevertheless I did go on my phone a lot less, I've actually started getting headaches when I go on it for more than around ten minutes at a time so I have to go without it (and probably contributed to the reasons why I managed to read eight books over summer).
My last point on my summer bucket list was to go swimming in the sea and this was never going to be completed in England so when I got the chance to go swimming in the Spain I took it with open arms (and it wasn't that freezing)!

I congratulate you if you managed to get to the end of this post and if you have I would love to know what your favourite part of this summer was, I can't wait to hear what you've all been up to :)
