fashion and frocks

Blue Prom Dresses

I'm back with a fashion post today, discussing my arch nemisis... the dress. Okay so I don't actually hate them that much, in fact they are slowly becoming my most pinned thing on Pinterest I think (not that my addiction to that app needs to be fuelled any more) and I'm definitely being persuaded to take a plunge into the depths of my fashion fears. Also I know the title is probably really old fashioned, who even knows what a frock is? But I wanted a catchy title to reel you in and this was the only one I could think of... fashion and frocks it is.

So... what does it take to find the dress for you? Well after plenty of soul searching and hours of research... I joke - it is only an item of clothing! But if you are on the hunt for the perfect dress I would say knowing your body shape is a good place to start. I have quite an awkward body shape, a small (er) waist then my thighs kind of go out (describing my body shape is seemingly very hard) but everyone's shapes are different so if you want to buy a dress or any items you're not sure about trying them on is definitely the best idea even if it does mean waiting in a queue. I know I suit a babydoll style as it doesn't cling to me (bodycon dresses make me look like a sack of potatoes lol - I do not suit clingy dresses) but there are so many other different styles on the market to choose from.

there will be a day when I do a proper outfit photo, I promise ...
Trying to buy clothes that you find awkward buying due to your body shape online is a total no go area for me - I am literal a total fail when it comes to online shopping (despite looking at conversion charts, trying out online shopping tips etc. hardly anything I buy online ends up suiting me). It's honestly so much easier to go to a store, try something on and not waste your money! Obvs you can send clothes back but that's effort and if you can spare a trip to the post office then I would. Knowing shops that sell dresses that suit you is also a good start as they can sell similar shapes whatever the season. The dress I'm wearing is from UO and I absolutely love it, it hangs gorgeously and looks great with and without a T-shirt underneath.

Have you got any favourite shops to buy dresses from? My favourite is probs Urban Outfitters because everything is just gawgussss and expensive but nice for a #treatyoself moment .

  1. I buy all of my clothes from charity shops, which means I always try everything on and it has taught me that clothing sizes are weird haha! Lately though I think my favourite dresses have all been from TU (sainsburys) and F&F (tesco) which has really suprised me!

Good luck in future dress hunts!

  4. I love this dress on you and love how you've styled it with the t-shirt it looks cool! I find it so hard to get the right dress as I'm not really a dress person either! But I've found boohoo & H&M to do some good dresses! :)

  6. I agree with you, it's so much easier to go to a store, try on a certain dress and see how it suits you instead of ordering it online and having to send it back in case it doesn't look great on you. Plus, I actually love going to the store because I can feel the clothes, see if I like the material, does it fit perfectly ect. which is something you can never do with online shopping :) And your dress looks amazing!

  7. Dress shopping is always the worst for me. Like you I have a hard time finding something that fits me right without making me look like a sack of potatoes! Some styles are a hit and miss depending on the pattern as well making it even harder. If anything I have to roam the mall to find different dresses I like. And hey, at least you admit you have a slight addiction to Pinterest. (:

  12. Love how you've layered that dress over a tee - the detail is stunning and its given me some serious inspiration for going away outfits for next weekend! I totally know what you mean about online shopping too - for me, its when it arrives and the material is completely different to what it looked like on the site! x

  13. I find dresses quite an easy thing to wear, but I think that's from years of finding the right sort of style of dress for me personally which just so happens to be a skater dress style - super flattering!

  15. I have the same problem as you, my waist is smaller than my hips and thighs so finding a dress is so hard! I love your dress though, the back of it is so pretty and I love how you styled it with the shirt underneath.

  19. That's such a nice dress and it looks so good with the t-shirt underneath it! I used to find it so easy to find clothes, but I've become a bit more picky about how things fit me recently, so I'm finding it a lot more difficult!
