Books, blush and buying bright clothes

I still can't comprehend how January is already over! 2016 is off to a great start, with plans for the summer being made and lots of exciting things happening. It's my first favourites of the year and I can't quite believe it.

I couldn't not feature the Urban Decay Naked palette in my monthly favourites, it has literally been the only eyeshadow palette I've been using this month. The different looks you can create makes it such a great all round palette - I have to say it may be up there with my top palettes. If you want a full review with looks just leave me a comment down below!

Recently, I've been really getting into more lifestyle/fashion books as they're so great as a light read or if you're in need of some inspiration. Love x Style x Life by Garance Dore is probably my current favourite. The photos are great and the range of subjects talked about in the book makes it a good all rounder. A bonus is it looks super gorgeous in photos!

For Christmas I got the cutest little Too Faced set that came with a mini melted lipstick and a long-lasting 16-hour blush in 'love hangover'. You may be pleased to know the set didn't include limited edition products (I know I definitely was) as I have totally fallen in love with the blush. It is such a nice everyday shade and I can build it up or keep it pretty natural. True to the name the blush is super long-lasting and despite not trialing it out for 16 hours to see how it fared, the longevity is pretty great. I'll definitely be purchasing the full sized version when this runs out.

This may come as a shock to some of you but this month I took the plunge and... bought a top that wasn't white black or grey. I've been on the hunt for a nice red top for a while and I finally found one from Topshop. The fit is great, it's slightly cropped with a boxy look and bell sleeves (which I roll up because I'm not really a fan of them). I honestly love this jumper so much and I love it as a statement top and it has be making its way into lots of my outfits recently.

I bought the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer purely because they didn't have the Collection concealer in my local superdrug and I needed a new concealer at the time. Slowly but surely this little tube has made its way into my daily routine and I actually really like it. It certainly gives me the 'awake look' as it has little specks of glitter although they are not to large that they're really noticeable. A small amount goes a long way and I definitely continue to use it!

I hope you have had a great start to 2016 and I would love to know what you have been loving in January!

What's in my handbag?

Despite not being the neatest person, my bag is something I pride myself in - I know where everything is and there is hardly anything I don't need (other than a growing pile of receipts)! I love being nosy and seeing what's in other people's bags so I thought I'd write a blog post on what's in mine! This particular bag is from Topshop (I've linked one similar) and I I think it's so simple and gorgeous. It's not the best bag for a rainy day as its suede but when the weather is right this bag is perfect! It's a great size as well, limiting the amount you can fit in.

Without even saying my phone is a necessary in my bag; I could leave the house without it but on the go you never know when you might need to phone or text someone. Oddly enough I have a waterproof mascara in my bag, I don't quite know why it's in there but I think I wanted to touch up my makeup so I put it in there and forgot to take it out. I have to say the Maybelline waterproof mascara is pretty great though! A hand gel is always handy and who leaves the house without at least 3 lip options in their bag ?? I'm totally joking as I only have two and even that's too many - I currently cannot locate my Carmex although that should probably go in my bag as well. The two lipsticks presently in my bag are Mac Twig (aka the love of my life) and L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche in Eva's nude; a fantastic pinky nude that goes with pretty much anything I'm wearing.

Bobby pins get EVERYWHERE in my room, but you'll also find them in my bag. The amount of times I've had to pin some escaping hair and there has not been a bobby pin handy is ridiculous, so I always keep a stash in my bag just in case - a hair band is also another friendly companion. For an 'on the go' spritz the I love Raspberry and Blackberry spray is just perfect. If you don't know the scent already you neeeeed to go into Superdrug and spray it - the smell is just amazing.

That is what's in my bag and I hope you've enjoyed having a nosy! What's a must have in your bag?

A year on EC

This past year on my blog has flown by, I just can't believe what I've achieved and the fact I've actually stuck with something for a whole year astounds me. I cannot express in words how much those who read and comment on this blog mean to me; through this blog I have gained so much confidence and I love blogging so much.

This time last year I never would have realised how much a blog would have changed my mindset and view on life. On the 22nd January 2015 I uploaded my first blog post, a review of the Naked 3 palette with the aim to post once a week, maybe more if I had the time. Now I regularly blog twice a week and love reading your comments about what I write. Not only that but I've made friends through blogging as well, the community is so nice and I love chatting to bloggers through social media (even if I do get lured into buying new beauty items)!

I'm not going to get really cheesy and tell you all how much blogging has changed my life but it has, the person I was last year is no way near the person I am now and despite other factors having an impact on who I am blogging also plays a large part in that. Lastly; I want to say the biggest THANK YOU to everyone that reads my blog and I hope 2016 brings even more fun and blogging than last year! Here's to one year of EleanorClaudie and hopefully many more!

The tips that saved my skin

Lately, I have been really confident in my skin and I feel great! I can confidently go out with no makeup on and to some people that may be a small thing but to me it's a big victory. Confidence is totally personal to individuals but I also think being so confident in my skin lately is due to the way I've been treating it. By no means has my redness magically vanished and spots are unheard of but my dryness has dramatically improved and I don't get the extent of breakouts that I used to.

On days where I'm so worn out or I'm just really tired I can slack with my makeup routine, however something I've been doing regularly lately is removing my makeup completely. It may sound totally stupid and most people do take their makeup off but I found I still had makeup left when I just did one cleanse. I now have a skincare routine I love and I make sure I take time at the end of the day to complete it. I start of by taking my makeup off with the Garnier Micellar water; I cannot understand why I stopped using this! To remove my eye makeup I use my trusty Simple cleansing lotion (it is the only makeup remover that doesn't irritate my eyes and I LOVE it). To just cleanse my skin I use the Vitamin E Cream cleanser; I love the Body Shop skincare because it feels so nice on my skin and the Vitamin E range is just perfect. As a result there is no makeup left and I think that is one thing that has improved my skin.

I have honestly seen such a difference in my skin through drinking more water and staying hydrated. I don't particularly set a goal of how much I want to drink that day because I know I won't stay at it but I just try and regularly drink throughout the day. Not only has drinking more water made a difference to my skin but it has also made a difference to my focus and attention. It sounds stupid but I definitely feel more alert and awake as a result of drinking more water. It is such an easy tip and I think it is easily achievable.

There are only two tips in this blog post but I hope that they might have helped you! I've seen a massive difference in my skin from just using these little helpful tips.

Let's talk staples: Chelsea boots

Chelsea boots for me are a staple item in my wardrobe, they are so versatile and go with almost every outfit I wear (plus they're black so that's a bonus)! Along with my other 'let's talk staples' clothing items including denim ripped jeans and a striped top, Chelsea boots for me are definitely a staple piece.

My perfect pair of simple Chelsea boots are from Office - I got them last year so I've linked some similar and I know they'll last a long time as I bought a slightly more expensive pair. If I don't know what footwear to go for I'll almost always wear either these or my beloved Stan Smiths - they just go with everything! My favourite ways to wear them are either with my black Joni jeans from Topshop or my ripped jeans as I feel they make the look less casual. They're also great for most seasons as well (obviously not summer though). From Autumn to Spring there are always different outfits that I can style these shoes with.

I hope this post has given an insight into one of my favourite pair of shoes in my wardrobe and I hope  it might have given you some inspiration if you're looking for a new pair of shoes.

New Year's resolutions

New Years resolutions are always a little skeptical, does anyone really stick to them? You can set really unrealistic goals for yourself but they will always be personal to you and what you want to achieve that year. I would set 'goals' for my blog, but I'm enjoying just writing and sharing posts so much I guess that is my goal; to stay blogging. With school taking priority there will be weeks I will only be able to post one post but blogging is like a stress release for me, I love it and hope to continue blogging regularly throughout 2016. So, what are my resolutions for this year?

Put my phone down more often.
Consumed by social media and the internet, there isn't a day I don't go without wifi. I'm obviously not the only one where this is the case, however in 2016 I don't want to always be on my phone.

Be more focused.
This is actually a continuing resolution from 2015. Towards the end of the year I was more focused on my school work, knowing what had to be done and when - completing to the best of my ability. As a result I was less stressed as I was not completing work at the last minute, but the quicker I got it done the more time I had for my blog and other more relaxing things. The only issue last year was that I used to get extremely side tracked with my phone *basically meaning I could spend an hour just scrolling through Instagram and Pinterest* however this year I am going to try not to do this. Hopefully I will stick to this resolution!

Focus on my well-being.
Despite this being totally stereotypical, I do want to focus more on my well-being this year. Nothing drastic, but slight changes to improve my lifestyle and also my outlook on myself and others. Little things like taking time out to totally chill and just watch YouTube instead of constantly trying to do something productive #thelifeofaworkaholic will improve my stress levels and just general happiness.

Get enough sleep!
I do probably get the right amount of sleep, but I wake up feeling so tired and unawake, which is totally unlike me considering I'm a morning person! Just an hour extra in bed can change my mood in the morning therefore this year I'm going to try and get an extra hour of sleep in as I think that will improve my performance and energy throughout the day.

Those are my resolutions for the year but what are yours?
