Trying to find the perfect dupe...

Don't get me wrong, I love it when I find the perfect dupe for an expensive product - but you can end up spending even more trying to find that dupe instead of just buying the product origninally.

Velvet teddy is one of those cult beauty products - you just need to have it. But do you? You can create the same look with a very similar lipstick or crayon and although I may have it and love it, when it runs out I won't be running to the nearest Mac counter to buy another one -  and that's not just because they probably wouldn't have it in stock.

From left - right | rimmel 1000 kisses lip liner in tiramisu, L'Oreal colour riche lipstick in 630 (I couldn't find this on any website but I'm almost certain it isn't discontinued), Mac velvet teddy, Maybelline colour drama lip pencil in nude perfection

I would say the closest shade to velvet teddy is the shade on the furthest right - the maybelline colour drama lip pencil. It's similar in finish as well (it's said to have a velvet finish) so I think that's the closest you may find at the drugstore. I think it's hard to find the exact same product that lives up to the standards and colour of high-end products, however I think the maybelline lip crayon/pencil fits the bill perfectly - you can't really tell the difference. Despite me thinking that velvet teddy was way too brown for my lips, I discovered whilst swatching that velvet teddy was actually the pinkest out of all them!

Although I would say velvet teddy is worth having, if you don't have the budget then there's no point in buying it. Overall I would say my favourite lip colour and the lip product that is the best quality in my opinion is velvet teddy, the maybelline and L'Oreal lipstick are a close behind! The L'Oreal Colour Riche lipsticks are gorgeous and definitely worth having a look at, they're so creamy (so not the same finish as velvet teddy)!

In the end, here are some dupes for velvet teddy which I love (and use all of them) but I'll still continue to buy brownish nude lipsticks - they're just no escape! I'd love to know your favourite dupes for velvet teddy if you have any!

A postcard from Rome and Venice: the most magical place

Despite this post going up nearly two weeks since I've been back from Italy, it's one that I just had to do. There's a selection of some of the photos I took and the sights I saw, but it's something to look back and remember. Italy is such a gorgeous place, with something new around every cover, this just making everything all the more magical. We went to Rome, Ravenna, Venice and Verona, also visiting the islands of Murano and Burano. My favourite place has to be Burano, the beautiful multi-coloured houses just captured the sense of sense of happiness on the Island and I loved it. Italy is gorgeous and I think going there made me want to travel so much more. Realizing the world doesn't just revolve around England and the fact I didn't have WiFi for the week made me appreciate it even more - I didn't just see everything through a screen. Needless to say I'd love to go back to Italy and loved every minute of being there.

So I may have brought some makeup...

Laying out the makeup I brought from Italy I didn't quite realize how much I had brought - despite this I don't regret it, everything I bought I will use (or already am using) and love! so let's get along with my purchases! I had to take a trip to Duty-free whilst waiting for the flight and I finally purchased Velvet Teddy! despite being unsure whether it suited me at first I'e grown to really like it and wear it quite a lot! I also brought the Nars Laguna bronzer, a much loved Nars cult product, this was a bronzer I just had to buy! I was lusting for this for such a long time and it hasn't disappointed! A full post on this should be up soon!

I definitely wasn't planning on going into KIKO, so was kind of unaware what to buy when I went there. There wasn't anything I knew I wanted to try and I didn't want to take a risk of being a bold eyeliner if I didn't know what the formula was like (this is when I was actually thinking slightly logically). However I ended up purchasing some things I really like! KIKO is so much cheaper in Italy as it is an Italian brand, however I definitely want to purchase some of the things I bought again when I run out - especially the lip liner! The things I brought were the glamorous eye pencil in 404, a gorgeous plum shade, one which I think will be great for doing grungy eye looks (and it's waterproof which will be great for summer). A similar eye pencil that is definitely browner is the smart eye pencil in 802. It's not waterproof however I fell in love with the shade and I think that it would be great for more everyday looks, especially blended out. A lip liner that I absolutely love is the smart lip pencil in 712, a darkish mauve pink. I love this under MAC's please me, as although it's slightly darker they just look gorgeous together. The formula is so creamy and the longevity is great, if i'm ever near a KIKO i'll definitely be buying more of them! I also got a lip balm purely for the scent (it's like artificial apricots) but the sheer colour it gives is also cute as well. A full post on these products will be up soon!

Lastly, I couldn't not go into Sephora. It was my first time in one and I definitely wasn't disappointed. Despite not having loads of money to buy everything I saw, I managed to pick up a couple of gems that come in the form of the Sephora lip creams. They're absolutely gorgeous and the formula is great! I have to say these have to be up there with some of my favourite lip products (and trust me, i try a lot). Their only downfall I would say is the shade range, a lot of them are bold, garish colours that I just do not wear. These ones in 'marvelous mauve' and 'infinite rose' are my new loves though. Prettiness overload.

I hope you've enjoyed reading my new purchases from Italia and look out for some photos from the trip up on the blog Thursday!

There's something in the weather...

From left - right | high necked floral top, triangl bikini, precious stone pendant, crochet top, palazzo pants, set of rings, red and white crop top, striped contrast top, Daniel Wellington watch, statement necklace, fringed shortsblack short dungarees, printed top, appliqued sweater

A wishlist that only includes two items of black clothing! I must be going mad! In all seriousness I definitely did well in trying to stray away from my comfort zone of neutral colours and I actually really like everything on the wishlist.

The embroidered jumper may not be ideal as the weather warms up, but with British weather you just don't know what to expect! It's quite different, paired with some black skinny jeans however and I think it would look great. The printed top is also something I wouldn't usually go for, I really like it other than when I was trying it on in the shop the arm holes were massive - it seems to be a big issue in Zara, why are the armholes so big?

I've wanted a Daniel Wellington watch for ages and I highly doubt I'll be getting one any time soon, but a girl can dream! I also don't need any more rings but these ones from H&M look so cute, anyone else a ring obsessive?

I'm very much looking forward to walking about in a t-shirt and shorts for summer so I think some of these items are just perfect! Anything on your wishlist at the moment?
